About the Journal
The Bangladesh Journal of Criminology and Criminal Justice (BJCCJ) is an independent, peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary, and open-access online English-language journal that advances a critical understanding of crimes, violence, criminal behaviors that are taking place in the areas of public health, education, commerce, politics, sports, entertainment, drug abuse, radicalization, high-tech, human-trafficking and the roles perform by different units of the criminal justice system of Bangladesh in comparison to other countries, particularly those in the Global South. The journal is published twice a year (the number of issues is subject to the journal’s resources at its infancy stage). This journal serves as an international scholarly forum for sharing theoretical and empirical research related to crime and criminal justice issues and problems of Bangladesh.
A Double-blind peer review journal
This journal follows a double-blind reviewing procedure where the author will remain anonymous to the reviewers throughout peer review. It is the responsibility of the author to anonymize the manuscript and any associated materials.
(1) All identifying information, such as author names, affiliations, and any other potentially identifying information, should be removed from the m, manuscript text and any accompanying files (such as figures, maps, or graphs of supplementary material);
(2) A separate Title Page should be submitted, containing Title, author names, affiliations, and the contact information of the corresponding author(s) should be in a separate Title Page. This page should also contain, if any, acknowledgements, disclosures, or funding information.
Aims and Scope
The Journal aims to advance the study of criminology and criminal justice in Bangladesh, promoting empirical and theoretical studies on crime and criminal justice, as well as evidence-based public policy in crime prevention. This journal seeks to publish state-of-the-art research and practices on policing, criminal investigation, crime prosecution, the court system, penology, crime prevention, jail and prison administration, and comparative studies of crime and criminal justice. This is an invitation to submit empirical studies, case studies, book reviews, research notes, field reports, and other relevant topics in the fields of criminology, criminal justice, and victimology for publication in the Bangladesh Journal of Criminology and Criminal Justice.
The journal is interdisciplinary and welcomes research on any aspect of crime or delinquency, or criminal or juvenile justice from a variety of disciplines, including criminology, law, criminal justice, sociology, psychology, forensic science, and social work as applied to crime and criminal justice in Bangladesh or having implications for Bangladesh’s criminal justice policies and law enforcement. It provides a forum for all scholars, researchers, practitioners, and law-enforcement officials to share their research, views, and experiences in order to support or take part in an informed dialogue about existing or new, modified, or alternative criminal justice policies or practices in Bangladesh. The journal is an innovative idea and the first of its kind in the history of Bangladesh. All the researchers and practitioners are invited to publish their original research, arising from a variety of methodological traditions or their best practices with empirical evidence.
The major objectives of the journal are:
(3) to publish articles that advance the theoretical and research agenda of criminology and criminal justice.
(4) to the study of crime, deviant behavior, and related phenomena as addressed in the social and behavioral sciences and the fields of criminology, criminal justice, victimology, and sociology.
Call for Papers for the Inaugural Issue on Crime, Violence, Victims, and Justice in Bangladesh
The Bangladesh Journal of Criminology and Criminal Justice (BJCCJ) invites submissions for a special issue dedicated to understanding the factors contributing to the alarming surge in crime and violence and the effectiveness of the criminal justice systems in Bangladesh. The issue aims to address topics from scholars and researchers interested in explaining and comprehending the violent criminal behaviors occurring across Bangladesh, leaving behind a huge number of victims, creating serious challenges for both criminal justice professionals to deal with and criminologists to explain.
Authors can be from any part of the World, but the focus of the contributions should be Bangladesh. We welcome empirical research utilizing diverse methodologies (quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods), as well as theoretical contributions, literature reviews, and meta-analyses that address these crucial areas. We encourage academics, experts, and practitioners from diverse fields to submit their work.
Submission Guidelines
Scholars interested in contributing to this inaugural issue are encouraged to submit a brief abstract (up to 250 words) outlining their proposed manuscript. Abstracts will be reviewed by the editors to provide early feedback on fit, focus, and relevance to the issue’s aims. While abstract submission is optional, authors who seek preliminary guidance are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. Please email abstracts to Dr. Mokerrom Hossain (mokerromhossain@yahoo.com).
Deadline for submitting an abstract: September 15, 2025.
Manuscripts should be submitted by email (aziz.uoft@gmail.com), marked “Inaugural Issue Submission” in the subject line. The articles must be written in APA style. Manuscripts should adhere to the journal’s guidelines for authors, which can be found on the journal’s website (https://www.bicjs.org/). Questions regarding the guidelines for authors can be directed to the Editor in Chief: Dr. Mokerrom Hossain (mokerromhossain@yahoo.com).
Deadline for Paper Submissions: January 1, 2026
We look forward to receiving your timely and impactful contributions to the critical research on crime and the criminal justice system of Bangladesh.
